Italian tourist market gets familiar with Rhodes alternative tourism

The deputy mayor of Rhodes responsible for tourism Marisa Hatzilazarou held a series of meetings with tourist agencies during the International Tourism Exhibition BIT 2017 at the innovative exhibition center “Fieramilanocity” in Milan from April 2 to April 4.

The island had a special presence in the pavillion of the southern Aegean. A large number of Italians, tourist agencies’ representatives and journalists visited the stand and sent positive messages for this year’s tourist season.

Italy constitutes a traditional market for Rhodes and hundreds of tourists from Italy visit the island every year. According to official figures of Rhodes international airport, the Italian tourist arrivals posted a 15.68 percent rise in 2016 compared to 2015.

As part of the Rhodes municipality communications strategy for a dynamic presence of Rhodes alternative tourism product in the Italian market and fully harmonised with the innovations introduced by BIT 2017 referring to the thematic tourism, Hatzilazarou met with the director of GNTO (Greek National Tourism Organisation) in Milan Kyriaki Bousalidou and the member Antonella Papanikola.

Both parts aim at the coordination of a series of actions so that the Italian market learns the island’s history and culture, Rhodes offers modern infrastructure for recreation and luxury tourism, family holidays and sports as well as alternatative tourism proposals, such as religious tourism, congress tourism, sea and trekking tourism.
